Katy stares at Tyler’s profile across the room. They arrived at Southside restaurant ten minutes ago, and he’s been in deep conversation with his brother ever since. Katy’s been enjoying a glass of wine but would much rather be enjoying Tyler’s company. She’s curious about what caused his brother to pull him aside while on a date. So far, this date isn’t making her top ten list, but there’s still time.

She glances around the room, impressed by the amount of people here on a Friday night. She’s never doubted the success of this place, and it’s been a favorite of hers for a reason, even though she’s usually here for lunch. Judging by the crowd, people love coming here any time of day.

As she lifts the glass to her lips for the fourth time, her gaze returns to the spot both brothers were standing moments ago. It’s empty now, so she cranes her neck to scan the room looking for them, to no avail.

Suddenly, a man appears at the side of the table.

“Good evening, ma’am,” the server says. “I’m Sasha and I’ll be your server tonight. Are you ready—”

“It’s okay, Sasha. I’ve got this,” Tyler says as he approaches the table, pulls out the chair across from Katy and sits down.

Sasha nods his head, then scurries away.

“Sorry about that. Had a minor situation to deal with, but all is good now. That should be the last interruption tonight.”

“It’s okay,” Katy says, as she extends her hand across the table and pats his hand. “Is anything wrong? Because if you need to go, I’ll understand.”

“No, we worked it out.” Tyler gestures toward the kitchen with his free hand. “So, we can enjoy the night,” he replies, then turns their joined hands over and entwines their fingers.

Kenneth appears at the side of the table, and smiles down at Katy. “Great to see you again,” he says, then turns to Tyler. “Could I steal you for a moment?” His gaze shifts back to Katy. “Sorry.”

“No, it’s fine,” she responds as she rises from her chair. “It’s obviously important, so I’ll go. We can do this another time.”

“No,” Tyler says, as he jumps to his feet.

“No,” Kenneth blurts out at the same time.

“It seems you have something important happening,” Katy says as she steps next to Tyler. “We’ll do this again, I promise.”

“Follow me,” Kenneth utters, then turns on his heel and walks in the kitchen's direction.

Katy stares at his retreating form before turning her attention to Tyler.

Tyler grips her hand and tugs her behind him as he follows his brother’s footsteps.

Katy's gaze shifts around wildly to the restaurant patrons who are currently enjoying their dining experience. As the trio reach the kitchen, Tyler shoves the swinging door open wide and marches inside, crossing the kitchen where workers are preparing food. Some glance up and offer a hello and smile to Tyler as he passes. He greets each of them, while offering them a genuine smile.

Finally, Tyler leads Katy into a small office where his brother sits behind a wooden desk.
